We just sent John Mills Times Ten new work, “Caffeine Dreams” off to the manufacturer and will hopefully have it available for sale at the Austin Jazz Festival on October 2. The “official release date” is, of course, October 10 (10/10/10). We’re so excited about this one we can’t stand it. I guarantee it will knock your socks off. Dr. Mills’ just may be the 21st century’s Thad Jones. The band he’s essembled to play these outrageously difficult (but still very accessable) pieces is simply stellar.
We can’t wait for you to hear it!!
The SECOND ANNUAL AUSTIN JAZZ FESTIVAL
October 2, 2010 at 5:00pm. The Austin Jazz Society will kick it off with none other than Fable Records Artists JOHN MILLS TIMES TEN. This music will put you in the mood, start your heart pumping and part your hair.
Then you’ll be ready for AFROFREQUE – a six piece positive powerhouse hip-hop band lead by MC Tigre Liu. If you’re not standing on your blanket and groovin’ by then you might need to check your pulse.
Headlining the evening is LEAH AND THE MOONLIGHTERS, a collaborative jazz/folk/rock project of violinist and vocalist Leah Zeger and guitarist Aaron Goldfarb. A terrific contrast in musical styles that speaks worlds about the incredible diversity and talent alive in this city.
It’s not over yet! Closing out this compact and powerful night of music is a collective session of the masters in jazz themselves. No Kidding! a JAZZ JAM SESSION with none other than – check this list folks!! – BUTCH MILES, DR. JAMES POLK, MITCH WATKINS, EPHRAIM OWENS, CHRIS MARESH, JON BLONDELL and ELIAS HASLANGER. Oh my God! Get ready to learn a thing or two!
See you there!
We had a blast surprising Jon Blondell with this interview! He’s promoting his new album, ALIVE AT THE ELEPHANT ROOM, now available at Waterloo Records or right here in the Marketplace.
